Access Facebook For Free On Mobile Devices
Now mobile users of 45 countries including India can access Facebook on mobile phones on Reliance & Videocon networks.
Facebook has tied up with Reliance Communications and Videocon telecom operators to make the site available for mobile users with no data charges.
The new site “o.facebook.com” optimised for speed has launched for free access.
On Wednesday, Sid Murlidhar (Programme Manager for Facebook Mobile) wrote in a blog “Today, we are launching … ‘0.facebook.com’. “It, initially, is available through more than 50 mobile operators in 45 countries and territories with zero data charges”.
People will only pay for data charges when they view photos or when they leave 0.facebook.com to browse other mobile sites.
Osama Bin Laden Facebook Fan Page Disabled
Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden’s Facebook Fan Page has been shut down. The account became active less than a month ago, but had already attracted nearly 1000 fans to watch posts linking to speeches and recordings of the Islamic extremist.
Osama had a page named “The leader of the Mujahideen, Osama bin Laden” and his address is given as “the mountains of the world”.
Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said “People often attempt to register fake accounts under the name of famous or infamous people, and we have a number of technical measures designed to prevent this behavior”
“Sometimes these fakes do get through, but there is no evidence to suggest that the account in question or the other dozens of people who have tried to present themselves as Osama Bin Laden have any relation to the terrorist. As is our standard practice, we have disabled the account,” he added.
Although it is unclear who started the page, Facebook says they doubt there is any direct link, and the page was likely put up by supporters in the Middle East.

Twitter Revamps Homepage For New Users
Twitter, micro blogging social messaging service site has revamped homepage to make it interesting with lots of information by including a constantly updated section of the “Top Tweets” and a show case of celebrities and public figures linked to the twitter website.
Users will now see a live ticker on top, suggested users on the left and a live top tweet stream in the middle.
Twitters official blog says “With the new design, we’re intentionally featuring more dynamic content on the front page, revealing a sample of who’s here, what folks are tweeting about, and the big topics that they’re discussing. The homepage now features a set of algorithmically-selected top tweets that automatically appear every few seconds. It also highlights a random sampling of suggested sources; hover over any of them to see a profile summary and their latest tweet. Trending topics now scroll across the page, allowing us to present a large set of trends using little page real estate. Hovering over some of these trends will show a description explaining why the keyword is (or has recently been) popular.”
Twitter will need these qualities to keep its users engaged with its own web site.
