Zapak, Reliance Entertainment’s Gaming Arm Launches Zapak Plus, A Subscription Based Gaming Service

India’s leading online gaming portal and a subsidiary of Reliance BIG Entertainment, launches a new subscription based gaming service called “Zapak Plus”.

Zapak Plus offer more than 120 games from international publishers – Codemasters, Focus Home Interactive, MumboJumbo, Absolutist, iWin etc. to offer best content available. Users will have unlimited access to popular titles like Dirt 2, Ashes 2009, Flat Out, Luxor, Sherlock Holmes, Jewel Quest, Mysterious City – Cairo and many more.

The subscription plans currently available are the monthly and the quarterly subscription for a limited time period.

Users need to log on to Zapakplus.com to subscribe to their favourite games in full version at Rs. 99 per month. After downloading an app (1 MB), they can download and play games. Zapak Plus offers Cash on Delivery in addition to online payment and the company has set up a cash collection network across 50 cities.

Two years ago, Google added themes in Gmail which attract many users. Now you can customize your Gmail background with your favorite wallpaper or your own custom images.
To customize background image on Gmail, go to Themes Tabs in Settings or just click here to go there directly in Gmail.

In the Themes tab, the last option is “Create your own theme” where you must click and a pop-up window will show up. Over there, you will get a wireframe like snapshot of your Gmail, where you can customize the different areas with the colors of your choice. Upgrade to latest firmware and apps

Update with latest version of firmware & apps is a good idea to better your battery life as battery optimizations are usually done once in a while in newer versions.

Use battery usage screen

Always use task killer application

Yahoo To Launch Search Direct In India By Second Half Of 2011

After Google launched interactive prediction based search, Yahoo India just announced that it will launch its own version of Instant dubbed Search Direct, an enhanced search engine that promises results and site previews even as the search query is still being typed out in India by second half of this year.

Prabhakar Raghavan, chief scientist, senior vice-president and head of Yahoo Labs said “The new search engine predicts search results as fast as a person types – character by character, and presents those results dynamically, generating a fast, simple search experience that goes beyond mere blue links”

He said it (Search Direct) follows a theme … a theme that the company has been e pursuing ever since they forged a search alliance with Microsoft.

“The idea is to provide the user not with links but with answers. We expect Search Direct, a combination of completing what you were trying to type and fulfill your vertical-search intents including entertainment and shopping, which we launching in the US recently. We will be doing that in India in a few months from now,” he said.

Yahoo has already launched the beta version of Search Direct in the US last week, which was seen as similar to Google’s instant.

Times Of India Launches Apps For Android, Iphone, Ipad & Blackberry Smartphones

Times of India, India’s most-read newspaper has launched its official app for Android, Iphone, Ipad & Blackberry devices. These apps use the latest technology to give users the best browsing and reading experience on their devices. The apps are free for downloads, available in app stores of the respective platforms. There is no subscription fee for access to content at this time. The smartphone apps offer standard features allowing readers to access stories classified under different sections, as well as videos and photos.

Within hours of its launch on Monday, the IPad app became the top free app in the India App Store of iTunes. In the US App Store too, under the free ‘news apps’ category moved up and was way ahead of other Indian news apps. The Times of India is the only Indian newspaper to have apps for all these platforms and there’s more to come.

Rishi Khiani, CEO of Times Internet Ltd, said “The future belongs to mobile devices, especially smartphones and tablets. Our apps aim to deliver our premium offerings to our readers who belong to the highest strata of society and are quick to adopt these devices”

Google Unveils Instant Translation Application For Android Operating System Mobiles

Google has unveiled a mobile phone application that allows users to translate chats instantaneously.
Google Translate can use devices running its Android operating system to allow translation of English to Spanish and vice versa.Users will have to punch a key to activate the translation between sentences, but Google expects the service to operate in real-time within 18 months.It uses technology similar to the updated Googles application, which uses a phone’s camera to snap images of sudoku puzzles and, via internet, whiz back the solution in seconds, the Daily Mail reports.

Google Translate works by recording the user’s speech, sending the recorded words to the company’s vast servers, which then send back an audio translation.
The ‘Alpha’ trial version works only in Spanish and English but Google expects to add new languages soon.
In December, an iPhone application called WordLens became an internet sensation after a video demonstrated how it uses the iPhone’s inbuilt camera to recognise text that is viewed through the lens. It too only worked with Spanish and English.
Google already has an online text translator and while early versions of it sometimes produced little more than gobbledegook, it’s ever-growing database of words has now enabled it to achieve far greater accuracy.
It now covers more than 52 of the world’s estimated 6,000 languages.
As with automatic text translation, Google hopes the technique will become more sophisticated with the help of millions of users around the world.
But Google Translate is a giant leap forward in technology, eschewing text translations for direct speech, and it defies expert opinion.

Google launched today a hi-tech 3D application called ‘Body Browser’ on the Google Labs, It can map out the entire human body just like you can explore the world in Google Earth. This application will run on any WebGL supported browser, WebGL is a technique that enables 3D graphics within the browser without the use of plugins. WebGL is enabled by default in Chrome 9 Beta, Chrome 9 Dev Channel, Chrome Canary Build and Firefox 4 beta.

Google Body Browser uses HTML5 technology to let you examine the human body in fully layered, 3D detail.

Google Latitude Finally Available In The IPhone App Store

Google Latitude has been available for the IPhone since July 2009 but only as a web app instead of a native IOS application. Now after briefly appearing in the App Store last week and being quickly pulled, the IOS Latitude app is finally available in all its glory.

With Google Latitude, see where your friends are right now. Latitude lets you stay in touch with your friends and family by making it easy to share where you are and see each other on a map.

With Latitude, you can:

See your friends on a map – find out who’s nearby and meet up
Share your location continuously with whomever you choose – help friends and family stay in touch with you, even when you can’t take out your phone
Control your privacy – share only city-level location, hide your location, or turn off background updating at any time

Latitude lets you share your location in the background, even when the app is closed or your device screen is locked. Background updating requires an IPhone 3GS or IPhone 4 with IOS 4 or above.

Skype For Symbian Now Supports The New Symbian Running Phones

VOIP and personal video-conferencing provider Skype is out with the new version of its app for Nokia smartphones running the newest version of Symbian (Symbian 3). This is the new version of the operating system running on Nokia’s current forerunners like the N8.

It has a new audio tech called SILK, a high-quality audio codec that helps maintain clear audio quality even when your mobile network doesn’t scream at the speed of a few megabytes per second.
The update also includes improvements to the interface, easing navigation, adding contacts, adding a photo to your profile or even setting your ‘mood’ message. The UI elements have also been adjusted to fit bigger screens with upcoming Symbian 3 phones like the Nokia E7.
While all this is good news, what we’re really waiting for is Skype to bring the video-chat feature to mobile phones. It is known that Apple’s Facetime lets you video-conference between an iPhone 4 and a Mac. We await a similar cross-device functionality from Skype. Clients like Fring for Symbian already have this feature working – albeit the video quality wasn’t as superior as Facetime when we tried it out a while back.

Google Unveils First Chrome OS Laptop Cr-48

Google’s new unbranded “Cr-48” the very first Chrome OS laptop unveiled. Google will distribute the laptop through its Chrome OS Pilot Program which is kind of like a public beta in that you have to apply for it. There are going to be a limited number of the laptops available retail Chrome OS models from Acer and Samsung will be available in the middle of 2011 for the masses. Google’s doing a number of little promotions to give away the devices to interested users and businesses which will provide feedback, and it looks like there’s no way to actually pay money for one right now.
