Gopal Das, officiating chairman and managing director of BSNL said ”We are ready with the infrastructure and will meet this deadline”

Mobile number portability will allow users to keep back their mobile telephone numbers even if they switch their operators.

MNP was to be implemented by December 31, 2009 in all the metros along with the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The date was then shifted to 31st March 2010 & then to 30th June 2010. That deadline was missed too.

However there are the reasons for the delay, There are large number of telecom service providers in the country, some of them are newcomers. These telecom providers fear loosing their subscribers to their competitors and also they are demanding compensation from the government if MNP is implemented in the country which will be in place of the financial loss suffered by them by loosing customers.

This time subscribers in India hope that BSNL implements the MNP in the country without further delay.

It includes:

  • 3G Data usage of 25 MB per month up to 2 months
  • 30 Minutes per month Local and STD Video Calls up to 6 months
  • Free Talk Time of Rs.50 per month up to 6 months
